For most creators, text in AI video isn't a nice-to-have — it's the difference between a usable deliverable and a demo. Subtitles: Near-Perfect

Subtitles scored 17/18 clean, and that one 'minor' result was a styled caption with a decorative border where the border faded for two frames — the text itself stayed perfect. Single-line captions with short words (3-8 characters) were flawless across camera moves, zooms, and even whip pans. The model holds text stable through motion, which is the hardest part — earlier models would smear text whenever the camera moved.

Multi-line subtitles worked too, up to about three lines. The key prompt pattern: put the exact text in quotes and specify placement — 'bold white subtitles at the bottom reading "she never looked back"'. Without the placement instruction, the model sometimes embedded text as a sign or graphic in the scene rather than burned-in captions. With it, the output is exactly what a subtitle workflow needs.

Logos and Storefront Signs

Storefront signs: 10 of 12 clean. The highlights: a neon bar sign reading 'VICE' in glowing pink tube letters — perfect letters, believable neon flicker, no melt; a hand-painted cafe sign in Chinese (咖啡研究所) — all four characters correct, which is genuinely impressive for CJK rendering in video; and a delivery truck with 'FASCO' printed on the side that stayed legible through a full turn.

The 2 minor results were both long signs (10+ characters) where the last two characters compressed slightly — readable but noticeably tighter. Logos scored 6 of 8: a watch with a brand name on the dial rendered cleanly, and a laptop lid logo worked. The failures in this bucket were both attempts at putting text on curved surfaces (a coffee mug, a car hood), where the text distorted around the curvature.

The 2 Complete Failures

Fail #1: a cursive-font wedding invitation style title. The model produced letterforms that merged into an unreadable scribble — script fonts are fundamentally outside its text-rendering competence. Fail #2: a long paragraph (40+ words) displayed on a parchment scroll. The first two lines were correct, then it degraded into character soup. There was also a consistent weak spot worth flagging even though it didn't produce a complete fail: text on water or glass reflections, which came out partially transparent and ghosted.

The pattern across all 50 prompts: text rendering succeeds when the text is short (under 15 characters per line), on a stable or slowly moving surface, and in a standard font style. It fails when any of those three conditions break. That's a very usable capability envelope — most real subtitle and signage work fits inside it.

The Workflow That Gets Clean Text

Based on the 50 tests, here's my production workflow for text in Seedance 2.5: (1) Keep every text element under 15 characters per line; (2) put the exact text in quotes in the prompt, plus placement — 'on the storefront above the door', 'burned-in subtitles at the bottom'; (3) specify style explicitly — 'bold sans-serif', 'neon tube letters' — because the model defaults to plain white text otherwise; (4) for text on products or surfaces, keep the camera move gentle; fast moves are where wobble appears; (5) generate 2 variants and pick the better one — the retry rate is under 30%, which is a huge improvement over last year's models.
